Leilani's Evidence of Learning

Today we went to the high school to get inspiration from there decorations and the things they used to put up on there walls. I noticed that there were lots of quotes and they used the hexagon shape quite a lot. They had a big picture of a plane in their portal and it looked choice. I kinda had an idea that we could have a time line of all the types of books from the past till now and we could have a plane on it as well. I have really enjoyed this project and I have been learning with new/different people which is good because I am used to just working with my friends.  My highlight/s were seeing all the creative things that they had on their walls. My challenge/s was having to stay at the back of the group and trying to get them to walk faster because a lot of them talked back. 

I am really happy because I got chosen to be in the project group I applied for. I applied to be in the portal project because I really wanted to help decorate our portal and make it look better. This project is also giving me the opportunity to learn more about Hobsonville Point's history and sharing it with my group. I have been working with a new girl called Yuka and she is really nice. She has also adapted really fast to our school and she is very helpful with our research. Our main question we are working on now is Who used to live in Hobsonville Point? We have found great information that will help us out with our project. My highlights so far have been working with new and different people because I feel I have made some friends by doing this. The challenges I have had so far have been trying to find pictures of people who used to live in Hobsonville Point. My last immersion was with Jess and Sarah and they were focusing on drama and dance. I really enjoyed the drama because we did lots of fun games that were actually helping us improve on our drama skills. We played a game were we had to make each other laugh and I failed. With dance we had to get into groups and do different movements. My highlights were playing fun games in drama and interacting with kids I don't usually talk to. My challenges were trying not to laugh doing the dancing with Sarah.

A few weeks ago my class went on a trip to the Silverdale Adventure Park and it was the best trip I have had so far this year. The first thing I went on was this movie thing. They put a movie on for us and our chairs started to move. Next I had to sit in this donut and I got pushed down a hill. After that I went on my favourite ride the luge . The first time I went on my heart was pounding because I was so nervous, but the other times I had so much fun. The last thing I went on was this thing called the shooting star. The shooting star is a ride where I got slingshoted  up into the sky and it was so fun. My highlights were going on the luge .

On the 19th of September we went on a trip to Bruce Mason Theater. We learnt new and different things. The first thing I did was go backstage and talk through this headset to everyone. The next thing I did was go to this little show thing with my class. The people doing the show were showing us a different way to use sound. After that I went to this dance thing and we did lots of different dances and stretches. My highlights were talking to everyone in the headset. My challenge was trying to work with new kids other than my friends.

For Immersion I have been doing signage with Liv & Emma. We went to the high school to take pictures and get inspiration from the things that they put on their walls. They had lots of quotes and art works on their walls which made them really interesting to look at. We then described what we saw and shared them with the group. After that we had to make a sign of our own. Julia & I got together and made a sign with superman and a unicorn vomiting a rainbow. I really enjoyed drawing a sign because I like to be creative and use lots of different colours  to make it look good. The challenges I faced was probably taking pictures of all the things in the high school because there was so much things.

A few weeks ago my class and I got the chance to attend a google summit at Ormiston Junior College (OJC). Lily-Rose and I chose to attend the same workshops together. The first workshop we went to was a workshop that taught us how to use an app called storyboardthat . Storyboardthat is an app where you can create your own picture story. We got given three choices of what to write about, so Lily-Rose and I chose to do the story about how lollies affect peoples health. We didn't get time to finish but I liked using it because you could customize the characters you wanted. The next thing we attended was a workshop run by kids from our school Lilly, Jorja and Brianna. It was on how to make a detailed character description/design. We got to make up a character and draw them, then we had to write their back stories, write about if they had scars and things like that. It was really fun because I enjoy art and drawing things. For the past few days I have been in a group to help design a new playground for my school. It has been really fun, but also a bit challenging. Jono taught us to use a new app called Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an app that allows you to design anything you want with different shapes, tools and colours . I really enjoyed using Tinkercad to design my playground because it caused me to use the creative and organised side of my brain. THIS IS HOW MY PLAYGROUND TURNED OUT!!! The highlights I had were probably getting to go to other playgrounds and observe the designs of them. The challenge/s I had was probably getting used to using Tinkercad.  

Julia and I have finally finished filming our video for our project... But now we have to edit our video. I have been feeling quite stressed out with my project, but since we have finished filming a lot of this stress has been taken off my shoulders. Our experiment with the speaker actually worked, I didn't think it would make much of a difference, but when we tried it I was very surprised to how it turned out. I am very proud of what we have achieved. The challenges filming this project was trying to read my script off of the laptop and do actions at the same time. The higlights of my project so far have been getting my filming done.

We have now finished our script for our project and I am very proud of what we have achieved. Me and Julia decided that we should stick with one video because we didn't have much time to film and edit two videos. This is also the first time I have done one of these teach it videos so doing one video would be a good experience for me. Julia and I have been practicing our script so we know what to say in our video. We have also made an awesome introduction but you will have to watch the video if you want to see it. We are doing an experiment on how sound waves echo and spread. We will be using different items to test amplification. The highlights of my project so far have been recording and watching our bloopers. The challenges I have faced through out my project have been when julia  has been away or if I have. Then it makes it really challenging for us to film.

This term we are starting new projects based on what we learned from immersion with our teachers from last term. We had 4 options to choose from for our projects. There was learn it, science fair, science badge and teach it. I chose to teach my project on a youtube video with my friend Julia but we both had different ideas so we are going to do 2 different videos teaching whatever we wanted to teach. I wanted to do an experiment where you use baking soda and a balloon to cause a chemical reaction so it can blow the balloon up. I thought that was such a cool experiment but when we saw Amy for our teach it workshop we had to come up with a concept of what we were teaching. Julia's concept was easy but mine was hard because we had to be really specific.  The challenges I have faced so far is trying to find a concept for our project.

Term 1 Last term I was in Felicity's maths group called fluffy. we learnt about fractions, percentages and decimals. I really liked doing Improper fractions to Mixed numbers and Mixed numbers to improper fractions. My challenges in Fluffy were trying to finish my follow ups in the little time we had. I was also a bit of a procrastinator so that had a bit to do with it as well.  My highlights in fluffy was doing improper fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers to improper fractions. Term 2  This term we have been learning about area, perimeter and volume. We have had a lot of maths buddy tasks. It has been a real challenge because there are year 8, 9 and even year 10 stuff but it is still fun even though I don't get it right. We have lately been using SKETCHUP and it is really fun. We are using SKETCHUP to help with our area and perimeter. The challenges I have had in Amy's maths group is the year 9 and 10 stuff we have to do. I am actually surprised that I have go...

Today for Amy's Immersion we were learning about potential and kinetic energy, so she made us make our own roller coaster on  BUILD YOUR OWN ROLLER COASTER!!!  I thought it was going to be a 3D roller coaster and you could decorate it but it wasn't. It was really fun and I really enjoyed it. I failed like 7 times and it was actually quite challenging. I got it in the end though because I read my feedback and then I ended up getting both thumbs up. YAY!!! We made this roller coaster because it links to kinetic energy. If you didn't know, kinetic energy is energy that has force or moved for example a ROLLER COASTER so that is why we did this roller coaster game. What really challenged me was trying to get my roller coaster to be safe and fun at the same time. I really enjoyed getting both thumbs up. It made me really happy.

Term 1 Last term I had Felicity (One of my Learning Advisors) for writing. I was in a big group called Hogwarts literacy. Felicity taught us this thing where we had to read a sentence and we had to say "I think this means" before the sentence and describe the sentence in a shorter version. We also did persuasive writing and information writing. She made us use a spider plan or a hamburger plan . I personally liked the hamburger plan because it made more sense to me. Last term I really enjoyed doing the persuasive writing because we got to do a letter to our parents to persuade them about something. I really like trying to get something off my parents so thats why I really enjoyed it. My challenges last term in Hogwarts was the little time we had to finish our follow ups but it taught me that I don't have time to muck around. A few days ago we did an experiment called Elephant's toothpaste. It was really fun. First Nicole put in Green food colouring , dishwashing liquid and this other thing but i can't remember. We also had to put yeast in it aswell . Everything was in a botte and the bottle was in a pot so the toothpaste did not go anywhere. The Elephant's toothpaste came rising out of my groups bottle. It was so cool. My challenges were trying to wash out the pots and stuff because the toothpaste had something in it that could irritate your skin. My favourite part was watching the toothpaste rise

For the past few weeks our classroom has been working on projects. I chose to do a project about fair trade with Lily-Rose, Awatea and Maya . C. Our main question was how can we build awareness about cocoa farmers payments or something like that. I can't remember. Anyway after we did that I came up with an idea to get interviewed by the news to talk about fair trade because a lot of people watch the news so it would have been a good way to spread the word. It would have been a lot of work doing that though so my group and I came up with the idea to do a letter to a newspaper about fair trade. We did a lot of planning but we eventually finished.   We also made posters and flyers for a chocolate festival we're going to have for our class. Finally we had to present our projects. I was very happy with it but  we were not given much warning that we were presenting but other than that it was a good.

Today we are starting a new immersion on energy. I've got the POWER
